Read to a Dog

Cuddle up with a dog and a book! All ages and readers welcome. Join us at 3 pm the first Thursday of each month as reading dogs Barney and Fara are here to help readers of all ages hone their reading skills!

Bookish Sort Book Club

Yoga Stretch – with Caroline Anaya

Gently tweak and twist those stuck and sore places — You’ll feel much better! Feel more confident in a stronger more flexible body! Caroline Anaya is a MS certified Yoga instructor with over 20 years’ experience teaching yoga.

Tools to Quit Tobacco – Tobacco Cessation Workshop

Saturday, May 18: 2:00pm – 4:00pm

AGE GROUP:  ADULTS (19 AND UP)

Do you smoke? Do you dip? Do you want to quit? Suwannee River Area Health Education Center presents a program designed to help you quit tobacco use. Each participant receives up to a 4-week supply of FREE nicotine patches, gum or lozenges (when medically appropriate and while supplies last). Call 866-341-2730 for required registration.

Super Seniors Arts and Crafts

Monday, April 15: 11:00am – 12:45pm

AGE GROUP:  ADULTS (19 AND UP)

Seniors 50+ meet at the Hawthorne Community Center (Old City Hall) the 3rd Monday of each month to visit, create, and connect. We vote each month on what craft to do the following month. Cosponsored by the Hawthorne Life Enrichment Center, seniors are invited to come mingle at the Hawthorne Community Center to enjoy creating decorative projects and have fun with friends! Supplies provided.

Game Night

Magic: The Gathering

Wednesday, May 22: 4:00pm – 5:00pm

AGE GROUP:  TEENS (12-18 YEARS)

Hawthorne’s Magic Club will return on May 29th! Come learn how to play Magic: The Gathering and use enchantments, creatures, artifacts and more to win against your opponents! Open to all players of all skill levels, this club will teach you everything you need to know about Magic: The Gathering. Players will learn all about game rules, card types, special creatures and enchantments and be able to practice what they learn in games with friends!

SHINE Counseling

Thursday, May 23: 12:00pm – 2:00pm

AGE GROUP:  ADULTS (19 AND UP)

The Florida Department of Elder Affairs offers counseling that is unbiased, confidential and FREE, by trained SHINE Volunteer Counselors. Please bring with you: Medicare Card and Social Security Card; A print-out of medications from pharmacy or bottles; Proof of annual household income to determine whether you qualify for extra help;  MUST HAVE driver’s license or photo I.D.; Any letters from Social Security, Medicare or Medicaid which you may have received. Walk-ins are welcome on the 4th Thursday of each month at the Hawthorne Branch Library or call the Elder Care Helpline for an appointments at other times or locations: 1-800-963-5337.

MakerSpace: Hologram – Turn Your Smart Phone into a 3D Hologram

Tuesday, May 28: 3:30pm – 5:00pm

Cut and glue plastic trapezoids into a hologram projector for your smart phone! Ages 10-18. Explore the magic of 3D holograms with your smart phone by creating your very own hologram projector!
