One Eyed Cat – Resiliency

This soon-to-be-available album is largely blues with original tunes and covers by One Eyed Cat: a local husband and wife duo consisting of Gil Gauck on guitar and Nora Gauck on vocals. They are supported brilliantly on this CD by some other outstanding local musicians like Donald Blitch (harmonica), Paco (lead and lap steel guitars), and Edward Berkhoff (bass).

With this CD, you not only get to hear their unique take on some old familiar blues tunes, but you also get to hear a few of the best of Gil’s original songs on seven of the fourteen tracks.

Gil’s flawless guitarwork and songwriting skills reveal decades of honing. When drums are involved, Gil is there tapping the skins. His experience on stages with other bands and musicians, including a tour with John Lee Hooker and a period of owning his own record label company, has given a professional bent to his music that is appreciated by the discerning listener and blues devotees.

Nora’s clarity and strength provide a wonderful complement to Gil’s throaty blues moans. Her soaring vocals are captured perfectly here and shine through the speakers like radiant sunshine on cuts like Summertime, I Put a Spell On You, I Think It’s Gonna Rain, and Angel From Montgomery. Gil put together a lovely video of I Think It’s Gonna Rain that you can view here:
