HealthStreet~Transportation Services

is a community engagement program in the University of Florida with a mission to improve the health of our community by bridging the gaps in health care and research. We have expanded our program into Putnam County with an emphasis on transportation services to medical appointments for individuals 50+.  Our Community Health Workers visit various locations to talk about our services with community members. When interested the CHW will conduct a confidential, 20-minute health survey in which participants discuss their health concerns and conditions.  We would then refer them to no or low cost medical or social services if needed and inform them about any research being conducted that they would be interested and eligible for at UF. The entire program is free, signing up is free and the transportation function is free.

The Putnam County Archives is planning the Fifth Annual Yellow Ribbon Day to honor our current military on Veteran’s Day, Friday, November 11. Because of privacy issues, the families with an active-duty member must contact me or their favorite library to receive the yellow ribbon. If you would like to have a yellow ribbon, please call me, Darlene Walker at the Headquarters Library, 386-329-0441 or email the request to darlene.walker@putnam-fl.com. Angel Book Trees at the Library, November 1st – November 30th

Spread a little goodwill and cheer this holiday season and help make sure all the little angels in Putnam County have their very own book to read this Christmas. The Putnam County Libraries are sponsoring the Angel Book Trees for the eleventh year in Putnam County. Trees–at the Main Library, all of the Library Branches, and the Edgar Johnson Senior Center–will be decorated with paper angels bearing the names of children in Foster Care and Protective Management with Community Partnership for Children. We are also including children from Lee Conlee House. There are over 300 children in all. Please visit any of these trees and take an angel with you to your favorite bookstore. The angel will have a child’s name, age, gender, and a type of book wanted. Buy a book and return it unwrapped, with the angel bearing the child’s name, to the Front Desk of any Putnam County Library by Friday, November 30, to be distributed for Christmas. Remember angels are small, so you can take more than one, if you like. For more information, contact Darlene Walker by email darlene.walker@putnam-fl.com or by phone at 386-329-0441 or 386-326-2750.
