Call For Artists - Murals
The Greathouse Butterfly Farm in conjunction with Melrose Bay Art Gallery, Bellamy Road Art
Center, and Melrose Business & Community Association have joined together to create MoM
(Murals of Melrose) to celebrate the talent of visual artists and the beauty and importance of
butterflies all over the world. MoM invites you to participate in our project to create butterfly
specific murals in our small town.
Melrose is located in north-central Florida at the crossroads of SR 26 and SR 21 approximately
half way between Gainesville and Palatka. An historic community located on Florida’s First
Federal Highway - Bellamy Road (SR 26) - Melrose is most noted for our small-town
ambiance and for our numerous, scenic lakes. The Greathouse Butterfly Farm, located just
outside Melrose, raises forty-five species of butterflies for exhibits, education, movies and
specific releases. Greathouse (www.greathousebutterflyfarm.com) has gained prominence
throughout North America and thus brought attention to our community.
Our purpose is to create murals throughout Melrose that demonstrate the beauty and magical
wonders of butterflies and butterfly related themes. We have identified several buildings that we
feel are appropriate for butterfly-themed murals or for the application of painted butterflies.
ELIGIBILITY
We are interested in hiring professional artists who have some experience painting outdoor
murals preferably on a variety of surfaces. This project will coordinate with the annual Melrose
invitational Plein Aire event which runs from April 1 through May 3, 2009.
SUBMISSIONS
Please submit no more than 3 examples of murals completed in the past 5 years that accurately
represent your style and mural experience. Submit each example with 1 or 2 detail shots as an

media, and approximate time involved to complete. These will not be returned so send

mockup for the completed project. Wall surfaces (stucco, lap-siding, brick, etc) must be a
consideration. Selected artists will receive notification with more specific guidelines and a
